In her book „Holistic Dental Care“ author Nadine Artemis takes a firm stand for a completely different approach to dental care: No fluoride, no toxic toothpaste, no whitening agents and especially not vigorous brushing with brute force. A wholesome and healthy diet instead of processed and sugary foods makes for strong and long lasting teeth that even repair themselves when so thoroughly nourished from within. This approach is right down my lane, since I have tossed the chemicals years ago, no longer using store bought tooth paste (you can read frequently on those: Do not swallow! ) and never taking any fluoride when going to the dentist. They are really worried for me every time I decline, since I am so misinformed and will surely suffer terrible consequences.
Here I would like to warmly recommend the above mentioned book and share a daily flossing ritual that can save not only your teeth but also your heart. Artemis quotes Dr. Stephen Sinatra, who wrote the book „A mouth-heart connection“ with the following words: „People who are otherwise in good health who develop serious periodontal disease DOUBLE THEIR RISK OF FATAL HEART ATTACK AND TRIPLE THEIR RISK OF STROKE“.
So here’s what you can do: „Pull off a long strand of floss (without any chemicals like fluoride on it), then put a single drop of essential oil (clove, cinnamon, peppermint, tea tree) on your index finger and run the floss between your thumb and index finger to coat it with the oil. Wind the floss around your fingers and slide it in between your teeth, up and down, back and forth. Take care to move the floss in the interstics and around the necks of the teeth, where food and plaque build up. After that rinse with some salt water. The salt water and essential oil will coat your entire mouth, discouraging the growth of bacteria and nurturing the tissue.“
